RIC Closes Out Fall Season With, 9-0, Loss at ENC

Quincy, Mass.-The Rhode Island College men's tennis team wrapped the fall season with a 9-0 loss at Eastern Nazarene on Friday afternoon. It was the first match of the season for the Lions, while RIC drops to 0-2.


In doubles play, ENCís No. 1 duo of senior Austin Steelman and sophomore Tim Luz skillfully defeated RICís freshman Anthony DeFrancesco (Branford, CT) and junior Jack Adamo (Warwick, RI), 8-1. The Lions No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Sam McKay-Corkum and Brandon Lum started their careers blazing, sweeping senior Jason Morin (East Providence, RI) and freshman Sean Raudonaitis (Westport, MA), 8-0. Rhode Island College failed to provide players for a third doubles match and the Lions were awarded the easy point


Singles play was similar, with the Lions dominating play. Number one for ENC, Lum, propelled the team to their first individual point of the season, taking down DeFrancesco (6-3, 6-1). McKay-Corkum easily won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1). At No. 3 singles, Luz won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). Newcomer Sam Son was impressive; the freshman earned a point for the Lions at the fourth spot (6-0, 6-3). Eric Johnson won the final individuals match of the day, winning at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-2). The No. 6 singles point was forfeited by Rhode Island College


The Anchormen are off until the spring season begins in March.
