MAGUIRE NAMED LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Providence, R.I.-Junior defender Sean Maguire (Portsmouth, RI) was named the Little East Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.

Maguire helped the Rhode Island College defensive attack limit its opponents to 0.50 goals per game. He and his teammates became the first team to blank conference rival UMass Dartmouth. Maguire preserved the shutout by making a team save when senior goalkeeper Nick Clark (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was down and out of the play. Earlier in the week, the Anchormen gave up an early marker, but clamped down to earn the come-from-behind victory against Framingham State.

For the season, Maguire has played in 10 games, starting all of them. Head Coach John Mello's team is 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen recently wrapped up a four-game homestand with an undefeated mark.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Montclair State on Tuesday, Oct. 4 (7 p.m.).
