RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE SPLITS AT
LITTLE RHODY CHAMPIONSHIP
Boyer Paces Offense With 29 Kills

Bristol, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Little Rhody Championship, hosted by Roger Williams on Sunday afternoon. The Anchorwomen lost to the hosts, 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 12-25, 21-25), who went on to defeat Salve Regina in the championship game, then rebounded to shut out Johnson & Wales, 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-21) , in the consolation match.

 

Junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) posted a double-double with a team-high 16 kills and 16 digs in the loss to the Hawks. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) contributed eight kills and 13 digs.

 

For the Hawks (21-3), Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, CT) led all players with 17 kills to go along with six dis. Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, MA) added 14 kills and eight digs, while Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, CT) had a double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs. Kelsee Loche finished with a match-high 24 digs and three service aces. 

 

RIC (12-8) rebounded nicely with a shutout win over the Wildcats (3-20). Boyer registered 13 kills, three  digs, a block and an ace. Freshman middle hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, WA) contributed six kills, two blocks, eight digs and two service aces. Junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) handed out 17 assists.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 11 (7 p.m.).
