BELANGER PICKS UP TEAM-LEADING NINTH
WIN IN, 8-1, LEC LOSS TO SOUTHERN MAINE

Gorham, Maine-Junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) rallied back from a first set loss (3-6, 7-5, 10-3) to earn a victory at No. 3 singles on Tuesday, but that was the lone bright spot as the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team fell to the Southern Maine Huskies, 8-1, in Little East Conference played action at the Gorham High School Tennis Courts.

 

Southern Maine (7-7, 4-3 LEC) was led by sophomore Mary Moran (Windham, ME), who earned a straight set (6-3, 6-4) win at No. 1 singles and an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles alongside junior Tegan Talbot (Topsham, ME).

RIC (1-14, 1-6 LEC) nearly knocked off the Huskies at No. 2 doubles, as Belanger and freshman Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI) fell in dramatic fashion to sophomore Emily Boutin (Old Town, ME) and junior Ali Hartley (Boothbay Harbor, ME), 8-6.

 

Boutin and Hartley came away with a pair of victories on the afternoon, as Boutin earned a straight set (6-2, 6-0) win at No. 2 singles, while Hartley notched a win (6-1, 6-3)  at No. 4 singles. Freshman Molly Morrill (Litchfield, ME) also earned multiple victories on the day, winning (6-0, 6-3) at No. 5 singles and at No. 3 doubles (8-1) alongside sophomore Leah Churchill (Cumberland Foreside, ME).

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will host Emerson tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
