RIC WOMEN’S TENNIS WRAPS UP FALL SEASON WITH, 6-3, WIN OVER WESTCONN

Danbury, Conn.-Senior Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI), junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI), freshman Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI) each earned a pair of victories for the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team as the Anchorwomen (2-14, 2-6 LEC) knocked off Western Connecticut (0-9, 0-7 LEC), 6-3, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen jumped out to a hot start in doubles, as Brown and Batek earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while Belanger and Vallante notched an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

Rhode Island College continued to roll during singles, as Brown and Batek each earned (6-4, 6-1) victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Belanger picked up her ninth win of the season at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Vallante earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. 

 

The Anchorwomen did not qualify for the six-team field of the 2011 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, which begins on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

 

RIC is off for the remainder of the fall and winter. The Anchorwomen will resume competition at Regis on March 30.
