HARPER RECEIVES RIC TEAM
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD & GAMMELL
SELECTED AS GNAC COACH OF THE YEAR

Providence, R.I.-Junior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) was Rhode Island College's recipient of the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Team Sportsmanship Award for his gentlemanly play during the fall 2011 men's golf season and Head Coach Greg Gammell was named the league's Coach of the Year.

Harper is averaging a score of 77.5 in four rounds of action this fall. He shot a season-low score of 76 as the Anchormen placed first (four teams) at the Mitchell Quad on Sept. 20. Harper carded a two-day total score of 156 (80, 76) to tie for 10th overall as RIC captured the 2011 GNAC Championship and earn an NCAA Tournament berth on Oct. 9. He is a physical education/health major and a 2009 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth High School.

 

Gammell is in his sixth season guiding the Anchormen men's golf program. He led RIC to the program's first Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 9 as the Anchormen placed first (eight teams) with a two-day record score of 606 (300, 306). The win secured the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Tournament, which takes place in May. During his tenure, RIC has placed second at the GNAC Championships three times.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships on Oct. 17-18 at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
