BUTLER & FORD LEAD RIC MEN'S GOLF TO 14th PLACE FINISH AT NEIGA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Brewster, Mass.-Rhode Island College freshmen Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) and Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) tied for 22nd overall to lead Rhode Island College to its highest finish ever, 14th (35 teams), at the 77th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships, played at The Captains Golf Course Course on Oct. 17-18.

 

Over 168 golfers from N.E. Div. I, II and III institutions took part in the event that was played on the 36-hole Cape Cod layout. Bentley won the championships with a combined score of 606 (305, 301).

Head Coach Greg Gammell's team posted the highest finish at the NEIGAs in program history, surpassing the 2009 edition's 19th-place effort. RIC totaled a two-day score of 630 (319, 311).

 

Butler and Ford each shot a combined 154 (77, 77) at the tournament. The pair captured All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors as the Anchormen won the league tournament on Oct. 9.

Junior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) tied for 32nd with a score of 155 (77, 78). Sophomore Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) tied for 128th at 169 (87, 82), while junior Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) carded a 170 (85, 85) to round out the RIC contingent.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host its annual Fall Invitational at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence on Friday, Oct. 21.
