FORD LEADS ANCHORMEN TO JOHNSON & WALES FALL INVITATIONAL TITLE

Cranston, R.I.-Freshman Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) led wire-to-wire to capture the medalist honors as the Rhode Island College men's golf team closed out the fall campaign by winning the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational played at Cranston Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 22-23.

 

Ford led all field of 30 golfers by carding a 145 (72, 73; +3) to finish five strokes better than the second place finisher.

 

The Anchormen totaled a score of 612 (310, 312; +44), outdistancing second place UMass Dartmouth, 625 (315, 310; +57) and third place Johnson & Wales, 631 (315, 316; +63) in the six-team field.

Junior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) tied for fourth with a score of 154 (77, 77; +12).

Freshman Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) placed sixth with a score of 155 (79, 76; +13). Sophomore Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) tied for 10th at 158 (82, 76; +16).

 

Sophomore Zach Guillette (Tiverton, RI) finished 25th with a score of 180 (95, 85; +38).

 

Today's win marked the fifth time in seven competitions this season that Anchormen have had the medalist. It is also the fourth tournament win for the club.

 

Head Coach Greg Gammell's team is off for the remainder of the fall and winter. The 2011 GNAC Champion and NCAA Tournament-bound Anchormen will resume competition in the spring.
