ANCHORWOMEN FALL TO HUSKIES, 2-0,
IN SEASON FINALE

Gorham, Maine-Freshman forward Hilary Dube (Woolwich, ME) and junior forward Cathy Wise (Cape Elizabeth, ME) each scored a goal as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, 2-0, in a Little East Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field. The match was the season finale for both sides.

The win was the first for USM (3-12-2, 1-5-1 LEC) since defeating the University of Maine Farmington in overtime on Sept. 14, and snapped an 11-match winless stretch.

Dube tallied her first collegiate goal in the final minute of the first half to snap a scoreless deadlock. Junior midfielder Stefanie Stockwell (Buxton, ME) delivered a cross from the right wing into the box where it skipped off a couple of RIC (2-16, 0-7 LEC) players to Dube waiting unmarked at the back post.

Looking to add to their lead, the Huskies finally got an insurance marker in the latter stages of the second half.  Wise took a pass in the 77th minute from junior back Jess Boynton (Saco, ME) about 20 yards out with her back to goal, turned and lofted a right-footed shot over RIC sophomore goalkeeper Abygayle Fisher (Exeter, NH) and under the crossbar for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

USM senior goalkeeper Kat Rothe (Leeds, ME) was credited with two saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season and improve her record to 3-11-2.  Fisher (2-10) registered five saves for the Anchorwomen.

Lasell added one more goal in the 69th minute as senior forward Jessica Taylor (Standish, ME) took the feed from Hessler and launched one past sophomore netminder Abygayle Fisher (Exeter, NH) for her ninth score of the season.

The Lasers outshot the Anchorwomen, 20-1, in the first half. In total, RIC was outshot, 31-7, by the visitors.

Southern Maine had a 12-3 edge in shots and earned a 4-2 margin in corner kicks. Freshman forward Danielle Peloquin (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore midfielder Amanda Nanni (Burrillville, RI) each tallied shots on net for RIC.
