Men’s Cross Country Season Summary

Providence, R.I.—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the season at the NCAA N.E. Regional Championships on Nov. 12. The Anchormen placed 27th (48 teams) with a score of 882.

 

RIC placed 19th (44 teams) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a score of 494.0 on Nov. 5.

 

The Anchormen placed sixth (14 teams) overall and third (six teams) in the Little East at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 29 with team scores of 156 and 88, respectively.

 

 

 

Junior Kevin Carey (Wakefield, RI) joined the team after the fall baseball season ended. He finished 93rd with a season-best time of 29:33 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. Carey posted a 16th place time of 27:20 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course).

 

Junior Kyle Mann (West Warwick, RI) joined the team after the fall baseball season ended. He finished 108th with a season-best time of 30:20 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. Mann placed 18th with a time of 28:15 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course).

 

Junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) was named the team MVP and was the top RIC finisher in all eight races. He placed 67th with a time of 26:11.83 at the N.E. Division III Championships on Nov. 12. McCloskey earned All-ECAC honors, placing 15th with a time of 26:56.70 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He earned N.E. All-Alliance honors, placing fifth with a season-best time of 25:43 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. McCloskey’s effort was the 13th fastest time in the championship’s history and tied for the 16th-best time in program history. McCloskey took first place with a time of 24:03 to help guide Rhode Island College to a 21-34 victory over Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 11th with a time of 26:47.56 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished fourth overall with a time of 26:57 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. McCloskey took first overall with a time of 27:49 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 28th with a time of 25:50.22 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17. He was named Little East Runner of the Week three times on the season.

 

Junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI) finished 221st with a time of 29:08.17 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He placed 146th with a time of 29:48.47 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. Pena finished 58th overall with a season-best time of 28:14 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He finished 12th with a time of 26:13 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). Pena placed 152nd with a time of 30:18.43 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished 63rd with a time of 29:44 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. Pena placed 15th with a time of 31:38 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He finished 157th with a time of 28:40.50 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed 195th with a time 28:26.78 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He placed 85th with a time of 28:45.54 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. Stadnick placed 34th with a season-best time of 27:21 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He placed second with a time of 24:51 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). Stadnick placed 72nd with a time of 28:35.09 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished 34th with a time of 28:28 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. Stadnick posted a time of 30:50 for a 12th place finish at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 123rd with a time of 27:45.59 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

Sophomore Tom DeCristofaro (Smithfield, RI) placed 250th with a time of 29:52.06 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He placed 189th with a time of 30:39.00 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. DeCristofaro placed 76th with a season-best time of 28:54 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He finished in 13th place with a time of 26:20 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). DeCristofaro placed 134th with a time of 29:59.01 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He placed 75th with a time of 30:35 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. DeCristofaro placed 20th with a time of 32:00 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 191st with a time of 29:49.63 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

Sophomore Cameron Richer (Woonsocket, RI) placed 191st with a time of 28:21.20 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. Richer placed 140th with a time of 29:36.43 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He placed 56th overall with a time of 28:11 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. Richer finished in sixth place with a time of 25:20 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 92nd with a time of 29:00.12 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. Richer placed 54th with a time of 29:21 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 13th with a time of 31:15 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. Richer finished 134th with a season-best time of 27:58.09 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

Freshman Ian LaPlume (Hope Valley, RI) finished 214th with a time of 29:00.79 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. LaPlume placed 112th with a time of 29:07.48 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He finished 39th overall with a season-best time of 27:27 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. LaPlume finished third with a time of 25:07 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 58th with a time of 28:16.76 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. LaPlume placed 29th with a time of 28:23 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 14th with a time of 31:32 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. LaPlume placed 140th with a time of 28:12.84 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

Freshman Marcus Sandoval (Portsmouth, RI) finished 225th with a time of 29:13.50 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. Sandoval placed 186th with a time of 30:34.70 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He finished 69th overall with a season-best time of 28:43 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. Sandoval placed ninth with a time of 25:57 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 118th with a time of 29:40.98 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. Sandoval placed 73rd with a time of 29:55 at the Pop Crowell Cross Country Invitational on Oct. 1. He placed 183rd with a time of 29:32.71 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.
