2011 Rhode Island College Women’s Tennis
Season Summary

(2-14-0 Overall; 2-6 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, R.I.—Head Coach Liz Barrette’s (Career record: 20-43, .317) team finished the 2011 season with a 2-14 overall record and a 2-6 (seventh place) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen received the 2011 Little East Conference Sportsmanship Award.

 

 

 

Senior Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) closed out her career as an Anchorwoman with a 27-35 (.435) singles record and a 17-45 (.274) doubles record for 35.5 career points. She is tied for 17th in career singles wins and is 34th in career points in RIC women’s tennis history.

 

As a senior in 2011, she was 4-11 (.267) at No. 2 singles and 3-12 (.200) at No. 1 doubles for 5.5 points. Batek was second on the team in singles wins and points, and also tied for first in doubles victories.

 

As a junior in 2010, Batek was 1-14 (.067) at No. 1 singles and 0-15 (.000) at No. 1 doubles for 1.0 points on the season.

 

As a sophomore in 2009, Batek was 12-4 (.750) at No. 3 and 4 singles and 7-9 (.438) at No. 1 and 2 doubles for 15.5 points on the season. Batek was third on the team in singles wins and points, while tying for fourth in doubles wins.

 

As a freshman in 2008, Batek was 10-6 (.625) at No. 5 singles and 7-9 (.438) at No. 2 doubles for 13.5 points. She was tied for the team lead in singles wins, while ranking second in points.

 

She is a elementary education major with a concentration in special education, and a 2008 graduate of Smithfield High School.

 

Junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) was named First Team All-Little East at No. 3 singles and the team MVP. This is her second career All-LEC nod, as she was named First Team All-Little East at No. 6 singles as a freshman in 2009. She was 10-6 (.625) at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, and was 3-13 (.188) at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles for 11.5 points on the year. Belanger was dominant in the Little East, sporting a 7-1 record. She led the team in points and singles wins, and was also tied for the team lead in doubles wins.

 

Freshman Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) was named the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. She was 3-13 (.188) at No. 1 singles and 3-13 (.188) at No. 1 doubles for 4.5 points on the season. Brown was tied for the team lead in doubles wins, while ranking third on the team in both singles victories and points. Brown was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week once this fall.

 

Freshman Taylor Clark (Bristol, RI) was 0-16 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, and was 0-16 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

 

Freshman Amanda Ferri (Central Falls, RI) was 0-16 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, and was 0-16 at No. 3 doubles.

 

Freshman Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI) was 1-15 (.063) at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, and was 3-13 (.188) at No. 2 doubles for 2.5 points on the season.

 

Freshman Jessica Young (Providence, RI) was 0-1 at No. 6 singles and 0-1 at No. 3 doubles.
