Providence, R.I.-Despite a valiant effort from sophomore Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) at No. 1 singles, the Rhode Island College menís tennis team fell to Clark University, 9-0, at the RIC Tennis Courts on Saturday.


Clark improves to 7-1, while Rhode Island College drops to 0-4.

Werchadlo and sophomore Dan Stein (Newton, MA) each split a set at No. 1 singles, before Stein came away with a tight victory (6-1, 4-6, 1-0, 11-9). Freshman Anthony DeFrancesco (Branford, CT) held his own at No. 2 singles as well, before falling to freshman Zach Goodstein (Columbus, OH) in a close bout (6-2, 6-4).


Stein and Goodstein were among a handful of Cougars to pick up multiple victories on the afternoon. Stein and freshman Josh Burger (Fairfield, CT), who also earned his second win of the day at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-3), were victorious at No. 1 doubles over Werchadlo and sophomore Matt Collins (Rumford, RI), (8-4). Goodstein and junior Dan Hall (Sutton, MA), who also earned his second win of the day at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-4), recorded the shutout victory at No. 2 doubles (8-0).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Springfield on Tuesday, March 27 (3:30 p.m.).
