RICCI SCORES FIVE IN, 20-12, LOSS TO
FIRST PLACE KEENE STATE
Carbone Continues Strong Play With 16 Saves |

attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) netted five goals for the
Anchorwomen, but it wasn’t enough as the Rhode Island College
women’s lacrosse team fell to Keene State, 20-12, on Saturday at the
RIC Lacrosse Field in Little East Conference action. |

Keene State (10-2, 3-0 LEC) jumped
out to a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of the ballgame and never
looked back. Rhode Island College (2-7, 0-3 LEC) bounced back with
three straight goals to make it, 4-3, when senior attacker Nicky
Drolet (Somersworth, NH) found the back of the net with 10:47
left in the first half, but that would be the closest the
Anchorwomen would come to overtaking the Owls the rest of the way. |

After heading into the intermission
with a four-goal, 9-5, lead, KSC outscored RIC, 11-7, through the
second stanza en route to the 20-12 victory. |

Junior midfielder Lauren Brown
(Agawam, MA) scored five goals, while sophomore midfielder
Eliza Witherbee (Newburyport, MA) added four goals and two
assists, to lead the Owls offensively. |
|
|
|
Keene State outshot Rhode Island
College, 45-17, and held a significant, 26-8, advantage in draw
controls. |
|
|
|
Aside from Ricci’s five-goal
performance, RIC’s offense received a boost from Drolet, who
finished with four goals. Sophomore attacker Ashley Signoriello
(Cranston, RI) registered two goals and two assists, while
sophomore midfielder Jessalyn O’Neill (North Providence, RI)
added a goal of her own. |

Junior midfielder Courtney
McKiernan (Hope, RI) notched three assists, four ground balls
and five caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Jenna Childs
(Cranston, RI) led the Anchorwomen with seven ground balls and
seven caused turnovers. |

KSC freshman defender Polly Grey
(Saratoga, NY) chipped in with two goals and a game-high four
assists, while senior midfielder Caitlyn Corace (Mahopac, MA)
finished with three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder
Ashley Borjeson (Londonderry, NH) tallied a pair of goals to go
along with her team-high six ground balls, while junior midfielder
Nicole Curry (Hampstead, NH) contributed a goal and a
game-high eight draw controls. |

Sophomore goalkeeper Taryn Carbone
(Cranston, RI) posted a valiant effort in net for RIC, making 16
saves in the loss (2-7). It was the second highest (18) save total
for her this spring. |
|
|
|
Junior backup goalkeeper Christine
Collins (Cheshire, CT) recorded the victory (1-0) in her first
start of the season, making three saves along the way.

|
In upcoming action, Rhode Island
College will continue Little East Conference play at home against
Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 17 (6 p.m.). |
