Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College menís tennis team fell to UMass Dartmouth, 9-0, at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday in Little East Conference action.


UMass Dartmouth (7-2, 3-0 LEC) opened the match with two consecutive doubles victories as junior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA) and senior Brian Lui (Medfield, MA) narrowly defeated sophomore Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman Anthony DeFrancesco (Branford, CT), 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA) and sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA) earned an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Corsairs were given the victory at No. 3 doubles via forfeit.


RIC (1-11, 0-3 LEC) was swept at singles as well, despite a hard-fought effort from senior Jason Morin (East Providence, RI), who fell at No. 3 singles to Lui (6-4, 6-3). Werchadlo came up short at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-2) against Rathlev, who remains undefeated on the year. DeFrancesco also came up short despite a nice effort, falling to Dugas (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 singles. Bejtlich earned a quick (6-1, 6-0) victory at No. 4 singles for UMD, while junior Mike Parker (Scituate, MA) picked up the shutout (6-0, 6-0) win at No. 5 singles. The Corsairs earned the win by virtue of forfeit at No. 6 singles to round out the scoring.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will head to Salem State to take on the Vikings on Saturday, April 21 in Little East Conference action (1 p.m.).
