NICHOLS EDGES RIC, 11-10, IN HEARTBREAKER
Drolet & Signoriello Pace Anchorwomen Offense |

attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) and sophomore
attacker Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI) combined for nine
goals as the Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team fell to
Nichols College, 11-10, in non-conference action on Thursday evening
at Vendetti Field. |

Nichols improves to 7-7 on the season
with the win, while Rhode Island College drops to 2-9.
|

|
|
The Bison notched the first four
goals of the game, three of them from senior attacker Krista-Jean
Forand (Plymouth, MA), to take the early, 4-0, lead. However,
the Anchorwomen stormed back with four unanswered goals of their
own, two from Drolet and two from Signoriello, to tie the game at
four with 14:58 left in the first half. |

After freshman midfielder Alyssa
Bufis (Linden, NJ) found the back of the net with 9:56 remaining
for Nichols, RIC added back-to-back goals, one from Signoriello and
one from freshman attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI), to take
a 6-5 lead. |

|
|
Yet, the Bison bounced back with
three scores in a row, two of them from freshman attacker Grace
Murphy (Montclair, VA), to take an 8-6 lead into the
intermission. |
|
|
|
After Nichols freshman midfielder
Sam McMillan (Bridgewater, MA) scored with 26:31 remaining in
the second half to give Nichols a 9-6 lead, the Anchorwomen
responded with four straight goals over the next eight minutes to
take the lead back, the last one coming from Signoriello with 18:09
left to play. |

Both defenses picked up the intensity
through the remainder of the game, until Forand snuck one past RIC
sophomore goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) with 7:29
on the clock to knot the game at 10. |
|
|
|
With the game on the line, Bufis took
a pass from senior midfielder Emily Yourie (Ellington, CT)
with 18 seconds left and scored the game-winning goal to propel
Nichols past RIC, 11-10. |
|
|
|
Carbone (2-9) made seven saves, while
senior goalkeeper Danielle Mott (Cranston, RI) improved to
6-5, making 12 saves in the win. |
|
|
|
Forand led the Bison with five goals,
while Murphy and Bufis each finished with a pair of scores. Murphy
also tallied five draw controls and three caused turnovers.

|
|
Aside from five goals from Drolet and
four from Signoriello, Ricci posted a goal for RIC while senior
midfielder Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) led the squad with
four ground balls and five draw controls. |
|
|
|
In upcoming action, Rhode Island
College hits the road to take on Simmons College on Saturday, April
21 (1 p.m.). |
