AMADO & FORBES  CLAIM NEW ENGLAND TITLES AS MEN'S TRACK PLACES SEVENTH AT N.E. CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cambridge, Mass.-Sophomore Craig Amado (Providence, RI) won the triple jump and freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) claimed the title in the 400m hurdles as the Rhode Island College men's track & field team placed seventh (27 teams) at the 2012 New England Div. III Championships, hosted by MIT on Saturday.

 

The Anchormen totaled a team score of 39.0. MIT won the meet with a score of 113.0.

 

Amado earned All-New England honors in two events, placing first in the triple jump (14.43m) and seventh in the 400m (49.69).

 

Forbes earned All-New England honors in two events as well, finishing first with a new program record in the 400m hurdles (53.79) and third in the 110m hurdles (15.17).

 

Sophomore Blest Norris (Grosse Pointe, MI) earned All-New England honors in the 100m, placing second with a new program-record time of 10.92.

 

In addition, junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed 15th in the 800m (1:54.22). Classmate Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) placed 22nd in the 1,500m (4:04.13).

 

The 4x400m relay team comprised of Stadnick, Forbes, freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) and Amado placed sixth (3:20.87). The 4x100m relay team made up by sophomore Michael Swift (Westerly, RI), Forbes, Norris and Gomes placed 10th (43.99).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2012 New England Open Championships, hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12.
