2011-12 Rhode Island College
Menís Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2011-12 menís indoor track and field season with one competitor seeing action at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Championships, hosted by Grinnell College on March 10. RIC did not score as a team.

 

The Anchormen finished tied for 56th (62 teams) with a score of 3.0 at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Div. III Championships, held at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3.

 

 

 

RIC placed 25th (34 teams) with a score of 5.0 at the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Boston University on Feb. 25.

 

The Anchormen placed 22nd (24 teams) with a total of 3.0 points at the 2012 New England Div. III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Feb. 18.

 

Rhode Island College finished fifth (10 teams) with a team score of 64.0 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 11. RIC finished fourth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with a score of 71.0.

 

Junior Kevin Carey (Wakefield, RI) was part of the 4x800m relay team that broke their own record with a 14th-place finish (7:52.55) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. He finished 20th in the 600m (1:30.54) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Carey finished 54th in the 500m (1:11.16) at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He finished 12th in the 600m (1:28.19) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Carey took second with a season-best effort in the high jump (1.76m) and third with a season-best performance in the 800m (2:06.50) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished sixth in the high jump (1.66m) and 12th in 600m (1:32.66) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Carey finished 17th in the 500m with a season-best time of 1:10.54 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed fifth with a season-best effort in the 600m (1:29.85) and 12th in the high jump (1.66m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) was named the team MVP. He took 12th in the mile (4:18.90) at the ECAC Championships on March 3. He broke his own record with a 20th place finish in the mile (4:11.95) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25, and was also a member of the 4x800m relay team that broke their own record with a 14th-place finish and a time of 7:52.55. McCloskey earned All-New England honors in the mile with a seventh place finish (4:18.37) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. He won the N.E. Alliance Championship in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 8:39.50 at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 11, while also earning N.E. Alliance honors as the Little East Champion with a season-best effort in the 1,000m (2:32.40) and a second place finish. McCloskey finished 29th in the mile (4:15.41) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed second in the 3,000m (8:40.44) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. McCloskey placed first in both the 1,000m (2:38.16) and the 3,000m (8:50.78) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished first in the mile (4:21.91) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. McCloskey placed fourth in the mile (4:19.03) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He finished first in the 3,000m (8:43.85) and placed second in the 1,000m (2:37.19) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3. McCloskey was named Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week once on the season.

 

Junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI) was part of the 4x800m relay team that broke their own record with a 14th-place finish (7:52.55) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. He finished 12th in the 600m (1:27.03) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Pena finished 26th in the 500m with a season-best mark of 1:07.12 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He finished eighth with a season-best effort in the 600m (1:26.16) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Pena placed second with a season-best performance in the 400m (53.02) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished fourth in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2:47.14 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Pena placed 10th in the 500m (1:08.62) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10, and was also part of the 4x440m relay squad that helped establish a new program record with a sixth place finish (3:30.32). He finished first in the 600m (1:27.00) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) finished 11th in the 800m with a season-best time of 1:55.49 at the ECAC Championships on March 3. He was part of the 4x800m relay team that broke their own record with a 14th-place finish and a time of 7:52.55 at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Stadnick finished 18th (2:02.87) in the 800m at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. He finished seventh in the 800m (1:59.31) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Stadnick finished 27th in the 800m (1:56.05) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He finished second in the 800m (2:00.53) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Stadnick notched a first place finish in the 800m (1:59.54) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed sixth with a season-best performance in the 600m (1:25.96) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Stadnick finished sixth in the 800m (2:00.25) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10 and was also part of the 4x440m relay squad that helped establish a new program record with a sixth place finish (3:30.32). He placed fourth in the 800m (2:01.82) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Sophomore Craig Amado (Providence, RI) placed 13th in the triple jump (13.64m) at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Championships on March 10. He placed 10th in the triple jump (13.93m) and 17th in the 400m (51.14) at the ECAC Championships on March 3. Amado broke his own program record in the triple jump after placing fourth (14.86m) and also finished 14th in the 400m with a season-best time of 49.47 at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. He placed ninth in the triple jump (13.49m) and 20th in the 400m (53.01) at the N.E. Div. III Menís Track and Field Championships on Feb. 18. Amado earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, as he placed fourth in the long jump with a season-best 6.67m, fifth in the triple jump (13.44m) and third as part of the 4x400m relay (3:27.96) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He also placed seventh in the 400m (51.53).

 

He took sixth in the triple jump (14.31m), 32nd in the 400m (50.34) and 97th in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.70 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. Amado placed first in the triple jump (14.32m), as well as the 400m (52.60), finished fifth in the 200m (24.83) and helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed first with a season-best performance in the 600m (1:23.41), first in the long jump (6.62m) and first in the triple jump (14.01m), while also taking third place in the 200m (24.28), at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Amado was named Little East Conference Track Athlete of the Week once on the season and named Little East Conference Field Athlete of the Week once on the year as well.

 

Sophomore Tom DeCristofaro (Smithfield, RI) finished 19th with a season-best performance in the 1,000m (4:49.65) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. He finished 26th in the mile (5:02.15) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. DeCristofaro finished seventh in the 3,000m (10:15.00) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He earned a 10th place finish in the mile (5:03.57) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. DeCristofaro finished 39th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 9:51.57 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed 13th in the mile with a season-best time of 4:51.67 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Sophomore Blest Norris (Grosse Point, MI) placed 20th in the preliminaries of the 60m dash with a time of 7.10 at the ECAC Championships on March 3. Norris broke his own record in the preliminaries of the 60m with a season-best time of 6.98, and ended up finishing 10th in the semifinals (7.05) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. He earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, as he placed second in the 55m with a season-best time of 6.54, sixth in the 200m (23.21) and finished third as part of the 4x400m relay (3:27.96) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Norris posted a season-best effort as he finished 48th in the 200m (22.84) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed first in the 60m (7.10) and second in the 200m (23.31) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Norris notched first place finishes in both the 55m (6.73) and the 200m (23.60) and also helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14.

 

Sophomore Cameron Richer (Woonsocket, RI) finished 26th in the 3,000m (10:07.48) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Richer finished 16th with a season-best performance in the mile (5:00.31) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished sixth in the 3,000m (10:01.78) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Richer finished 38th in the 3,000m with a season-best time of 9:47.16 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed 10th in the 5,000m with a season-best time of 17:29.73 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Sophomore Michael Swift (Westerly, RI) closed out his year with a pair of season-bests as he finished 73rd in the preliminaries of the 60m (7.55) and 101st in the 200m (23.81) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He finished 22nd in the 200m (24.42) and 36th in the preliminaries  of the 60m (7.71) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Swift finished fourth in the 200m (24.77) and 11th in the preliminaries  of the 55m (7.16) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished sixth in the 55m with a season-best time of 7.13 and seventh in the 200m (24.79) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Swift finished 51st in the preliminaries  of the 60m (7.57) and 61st in the 200m (24.49) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed 12th in the 200m (24.98) and 18th in the preliminaries of the 60m (7.63) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Norman Diamante (Glocester, RI) placed 12th in the high jump with a season-best effort of 1.81m and 29th in the long jump (4.16m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Diamante finished 34th in the long jump (5.55m) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He finished 13th in the long jump (5.87m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Diamante took first place in the high jump (1.76m), while finishing fourth in the long jump (5.76m) and 10th in the 200m (26.02), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished second in both the long jump (5.91m) and high jump (1.81m), while finishing 10th in the 200m with a season-best time of 25.71, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. He placed 10th in both the high jump (1.71m) and long jump with a season-best 5.92m at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) finished 26th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.89) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Forbes finished 13th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles (8.84) at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. He earned a pair of N.E. Alliance Honors at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Feb. 11 as he took first place in the 55m hurdles with a season-best time of 8.08 and was part of the 4x400m relay team (3:27.96) that also finished third. Forbes also placed eighth in the 600m (1:26.31) and 10th in the high jump (1.81m). Forbes finished 43rd in the 60m hurdles (9.21) and 58th in the 400m with a season-best time of 51.43 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed third in the 60m hurdles (8.67), fourth in the 400m (51.83) and sixth in the high jump (1.81m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Forbes earned a third place finish in the 400m (53.21) and helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14.  He posted a season-best performance in the 600m with a fourth place finish (1:25.88) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Forbes posted a pair of season-bests at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10, finishing seventh in the high jump (1.90m) and 11th in the 60m hurdles (8.73) and was also part of the 4x440m relay squad that helped establish a new program record with a sixth place finish (3:30.32). He placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.85) and fourth in both the high jump (1.86m) and 400m (53.55) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors for being part of the 4x400m relay team (3:27.96) that took third place at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. As an individual, he placed 10th in the 400m (52.41). Gomes finished 44th in the 400m with a season-best time of 50.98 and 107th in the 200m with a season-best time of 23.86 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 28. He placed third in the 400m (51.72) and sixth in the 200m (23.76) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Gomes finished second in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:27.55, third in the 200m (24.61), fifth in the 55m with a season-best time of 6.97 and helped establish a new program record in the 4x200m relay with a first-place finish (1:35.41) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He placed fourth in 55m (6.98) and fifth in the 200m (24.42) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Gomes finished 14th in the 400m (51.99) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10 and was also part of the 4x440m relay squad that helped establish a new program record with a sixth place finish (3:30.32). He placed sixth in the 400 m (53.85) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Andrew Jones (Pawtucket, RI) finished 18th in the 200m with a season-best time of 24.35 and 32nd with a season-best performance in the 60m preliminaries (7.65) at the Wesleyan Invitational on January 21. Jones finished eighth in the 200m (25.09) and 12th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.20) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He finished eighth in the 200m (25.16) and ninth in the preliminaries of the 55m with a season-best time of 7.18 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7.

 

Freshman Ian LaPlume (Hope Valley, RI) placed 12th in the pole vault (3.50m) and 25th in the 1,000m (2:50.77) at the Wesleyan Invitational on January 21. LaPlume finished fourth in the pole vault (3.55m) and fifth in the 600m with a season-best time of 1:29.77 at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. He posted a third-place finish in the 1,000m with a season-best time of 2:46.47 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. LaPlume set a program record with a season-best, 11th place finish in the pole vault (3.95m) and also finished 19th in the 500m with a season-best time of 1:10.92, at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. He placed fourth in the pole vault (3.75m) and sixth in the 1,000m (2:48.73) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.
