TWO RECORDS FALL
AT N.E. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cambridge, Mass.-The Rhode Island College men's outdoor track and field team tied for 28th (38 teams) at the New England Open Championships, hosted by MIT on Friday and Saturday, May 11-12.

 

The Anchormen totaled 6.0 points. The University of Rhode Island won the meet with a score of 169.0.

 

Sophomore Craig Amado (Providence, RI) placed third in the triple jump (14.99m), a new program record, and finished 10th in the 400m (49.77).

 

Sophomore Blest Norris (Grosse Pointe, MI) placed ninth with a new program record in the 100m (10.91).  Freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) placed ninth in the 400m hurdles (54.74).

 

Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed 27th in the 800m (1:56.13). Classmate Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) placed 17th in the 1,500m (3:59.01).

 

The 4x100m relay team made up by sophomore Michael Swift (Westerly, RI), Forbes, Norris and Gomes placed 13th (43.83).

 

The 4x400m relay team comprised of Stadnick, Forbes, freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) and Amado placed 10th (3:21.00).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2012 ECAC  Championships, hosted by RPI on Thursday and Friday, May 17-18.
