Providence, RIóHead Coach Greg Gammellís (Career record: 26-9, .743) team finished the 2011-12 season with a 1-0 overall record.

 

In the programís first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the Anchormen totaled a team score of 660 (316, 344) at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. RIC finished in 37th place (41 schools).

 

 

 

Rhode Island College won the 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship for the first time in program history with a two-day score of 606 (300, 306) at the par-72 Gorham Country Club on October 8-9. The Anchormen finished up day one with a six-stroke lead and closed out the competition three strokes better than second place Southern Maine, 609 (306, 303). The 606 score is a record for the GNAC Championships.

 

The Anchormen placed 14th (35 teams) for their highest finish ever at the 77th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships, played at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. on October 17-18.

 

RIC notched first place finishes at the Nichols Quad (Sept. 20), the RIC Fall Invitational (Oct. 21) and the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational (Oct. 22-23), while finishing second at the RIC Spring Invitational (March 30) and the Johnson & Wales Spring Invitational (April 21-22).

 

Junior Justin Coffey (Hopedale, MA) fired an 82 in his only action of the season at the RIC Spring Invitational on March 31.

 

Junior Brian Fitzgerald (Mansfield, MA) averaged a score of 88.6 in five competitions this season. He shot a season-best score of 83 at the Nichols Quad on September 20.

 

Junior Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) saw action in seven competitions, averaging a score of 86.6. He shot a season-low score of 77 in the second round of the GNAC Championship on October 9. Garcia competed in the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships, where he carded a 181 (94, 87) to tie for 204th place on May 15-16.

 

Junior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) averaged a score of 78.7 through 11 competitions. He fired a season-low score of 74 at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Invitational on April 21. Harper earned medalist honors after shooting a 75 at the RIC Fall Invitational on October 21 and was also the recipient of the 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Team Sportsmanship Award for his gentlemanly play during the season. He competed in the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships on May 15-16, where he carded a 173 (80, 93) to tie for 192nd place. 

 

Junior Joseph Quinn (Dedham, MA) shot an 84 in his only action of the season at the Nichols Quad on September 20.

 

Sophomore Zach Guillette (Tiverton, RI) averaged a score of 90.0 in three competitions this season. He posted a season-best score of 85 against Mitchell College on September 14 and then again in the second round of the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational on October 23.

 

Sophomore Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) averaged a score of 80.7 through 12 competitions. He shot a season-best score of 76 in the second round of the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational on October 23 and then again in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships on May 15. He carded a two-day total of 161 (76, 85), which tied him for 141st overall to lead the Anchormen at the NCAA Championships. Leigh earned medalist honors after shooting a 79 in RICís season-opening win over Mitchell on September 14.

 

Freshman Aaron Day (East Providence, RI) averaged a score of 90.5 in two competitions. He fired a season-best score of 90 at the Anna Maria Tri-Match on October 4.

 

Freshman Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) was the GNAC Champion and earned All-GNAC honors by capturing the individual title with a score of 142 (68, 74) among a field of 40 competitors at the 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship on October 8-9. His two-day total of 142 is a record score for the championships. For his efforts, he was named the GNAC Player and Rookie of the Year and was also named team MVP. He averaged a score of 79.5 through 13 competitions. Butlerís season-best score of 68 came in the first round of the GNAC Championship on October 8. He competed in the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships on May 15-16, where he carded a 166 (81, 85) to tie for 169th overall.

 

Freshman Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) earned All-GNAC honors after placing seventh with a score of 153 (74, 79) at the 2011-12 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships. He averaged a score of 78.0 through 13 competitions. Ford fired a season-best score of 72 at the Nichols Quad on September 20 and then again in the first round of the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational on October 22. He captured medalist honors at both of those competitions, while also earning medalist honors at the Anna Maria tri-match on October 4 with a score of 77. Ford competed in the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships on May 15-16, where he carded a 166 (79, 87), which tied him for 169th.

 

Freshman Ryan Sutherland (Rehoboth, MA) joined the team in the spring and averaged a score of 81.0 in two competitions. He shot a season-best score of 79 at the RIC Spring Invitational on March 31.
