KANNO LEADS ANCHORWOMEN AT LITTLE
EAST SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Sophomore Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) placed 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.56) and 11th in the 200 IM (2:31.54) as Rhode Island College placed eighth (eight teams) at the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships held at UMass Dartmouth.

 

2011-12 marks the first season of varsity competition for the Anchorwomen who were competing in just their second-ever meet. RIC totaled a team score of 44.0. Keene State won the championship with a score of 588.

Kanno also placed sixth as part of the 400 freestyle relay (4:06.52) and seventh as a link in the 200 medley relay (2:09.47).

 

Freshman Leah Oppito (Eatontown, NJ) placed seventh in the 50 freestyle (26.90), 14th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.53), while joining Kanno as a member of the two relay squads.

Freshman Kristen Wilkinson (North Providence, RI) and classmate Sierra Sant'Anna (Riverside, RI) were on the 200 medley relay, while Wilkinson and freshman Amanda DiPaola (Exeter, RI) were parts of the 400 freestyle relay,

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Bridgewater State along with Plymouth State on Sunday, Jan. 15. (1 p.m.).
