MCCLOSKEY & LAPLUME SET RECORDS AS RIC MEN'S TRACK OPENS SEASON AT SPRINGFIELD

Springfield, Mass.-Junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) and freshman Ian LaPlume (Hope Valley, RI) established new program records in the 3,000m and pole vault, respectively, as the Rhode Island College men's track & field team opened the indoor season at a five-team meet held at Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen placed fourth with a team score of 82.0. Springfield won the meet with a score of 202.0.

 

 

Junior Conor McCloskey

 

McCloskey posted a time of 8:43.85 and finished first in the 3,000m. He also placed second in the 1,000m (2:37.19).

 

 

Freshman Ian LaPlume

 

LaPlume placed fourth in the pole vault (3.75m) and sixth in the 1,000m (2:48.73).

 

Junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI) placed first in the 600m (1:27.00). Freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) took second in the 60m hurdles (8.85) and fourth in the 400m (53.55).

 

Freshman Marcus Sandoval (Portsmouth, RI) placed third in the 600m (1:27.72), fifth in the long jump (6.33m) and eighth in the high jump (1.76m). Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed fourth in the 800m (2:01.82).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, December 10 (10 a.m.).
