THREE RECORDS FALL AS RIC MEN'S TRACK COMPETES AT HARVARD INVITATIONAL

Cambridge, Mass.-Junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) and freshman Ian LaPlume (Hope Valley, RI) established new program records in the mile and pole vault, respectively, and a new mark was established in the 4x440 yard relay as the Rhode Island College men's track & field team competed at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday afternoon. It was an individual meet with no team scoring

McCloskey, who broke the 3,000m record a week ago, placed fourth in the mile (4:19.03).

 

 

Freshman Ian LaPlume

 

LaPlume added to his pole record, which he broke last week, with an 11th place finish (3.95m). He also placed 19th in the 500m (1:10.92).

 

Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed sixth in the 800m (2:00.25). Freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) took 11th in the 60m hurdles (8.73) and seventh in the high jump (1.90m).

 

Freshman Marcus Sandoval (Portsmouth, RI) placed fifth in the 500m (1:08.03) and 14th in the long jump (6.21m).

 

 Junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI), Stadnick, Forbes and freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) established a new record (3:30.32) in the 4x440 yard relay.

 

RIC is off for finals and the Christmas Break. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 7 (10 a.m.).
