MENíS TRACK FINISHES SECOND AT
COAST GUARD INVITATIONAL

New London, Conn.-Sophomore Craig Amado (Providence, RI), sophomore Blest Norris (Grosse Pointe, MI), freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) and freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI) established a new program-record in the 4x200m relay (1:35.41), while Amado tied his own program record in the triple jump (14.32m), as the Rhode Island College menís track and field team competed in the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Saturday.

 

The Anchormen placed second out of four teams with a score of 166.0. Coast Guard won the meet with a team score of 171.50.

 

Amado placed first in the triple jump, as well as the 400m (52.60), and finished fifth in the 200m (24.83).

Norris notched first place finishes in both the 55m (6.73) and the 200m (23.60). Gomes finished second in the 600m (1:27.55), third in the 200m (24.61) and fifth in the 55m (6.97). Forbes earned a third place finish in the 400m (53.21).

 

The 4x800m relay team of junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI), junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI), junior Kevin Carey (Wakefield, RI) and junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) also recorded a first place finish (8:22.48) for the Anchormen.

 

Stadnick also notched a first place finish in the 800m (1:59.54). Pena placed second in the 400m (53.02).

 

Carey took second in the high jump (1.76m) and third in the 800m (2:06.50). McCloskey placed first in the 1,000m (2:38.16) and the 3,000m (8:50.78).

 

Freshman Norman Diamante (Glocester, RI) took first place in the high jump (1.76m), while finishing fourth in the long jump (5.76m).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21 (10 a.m.).
