KEITH HAMILTON DRAFTED BY VAQUEROS DE BAYAMON OF PUERTO RICAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Providence, R.I.Rhode Island College senior guard Keith Hamilton (Queens Village, NY) was selected in the third round of the Puerto Rican National Basketball League Draft on Thursday.

The Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), a 10-team league that was founded in 1930, is considered the main professional basketball league in Puerto Rico. Vaqueros de Bayamon took Hamilton, who played at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico during his freshman year in 2007-2008, 22nd overall. Vaqueros de Bayamon is the all-time leader in BSN Championships with 14.

Its a very competitive league, said Hamilton. Itll be good to go from one winning team to another. My older brother Kevin plays over there for Mayaguez, so Im excited. But right now my main focus is to help bring another championship to RIC.

Hamilton is currently in the midst of his third season with the Anchormen. The sharp-shooting swingman has connected on 39 three-pointers during his tenure at RIC, including a career-high 26 treys during his sophomore season in 2009-2010. It was the same season that Hamilton drained six threes and scored a career-high 19 points against UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 26. He averaged 3.6 points per game that year in 25 games, which included four starts.

We are all so genuinely excited for Keith, said Head Coach Bob Walsh. He has sacrificed and invested in this program, and every kid dreams of getting a chance to play professionally. Bayamon is getting a talented player of high character, and I look forward to seeing Keith make the most of his opportunity.

Hamilton played in 25 games during his junior season in 2010-2011 and posted a season-high of six points on three occasions.
