Ocel Leads Anchorwomen to 1-2 Mark at Ithaca Quad

Ithaca, N.Y.-Freshman Mary Ocel (North Attleboro, MA) posted a team-high fifth place finish on vault as Rhode Island College went 1-2 in a quad-match at Ithaca College with Wilson College and Cortland State in ECAC Div. III women’s gymnastics action on Saturday afternoon.


The Anchorwomen (1-8, 1-5 ECAC) topped Wilson to earn their first victory since Feb. 14 2010 and also notched their second-highest team score of the season (172.050).


RIC lost to the hosts, 185.025-172.050 and Cortland State, 179.675-172.050, while outdistancing the Phoenix, 172.050-150.975.


Ocel led the way for RIC as her 9.200 on vault was the top score of the day for the Anchorwomen. Ocel also recorded a score of 8.600 on bars for a 12th-place finish.

Senior Sarah Chrane (Rochester, NH) notched the best score of the day for RIC on floor with a 9.350, which was good for seventh place. Chrane also earned a ninth place finish on beam with a score of 8.800.


Freshman Jessica Mushinsky (Shrewsbury, MA) led Rhode Island College in the all-around with a score of 33.925, while senior Kate Bachelder (Portsmouth, NH) was right behind her with a score of 33.550.


Mushinsky’s afternoon was highlighted by an eighth place finish on vault (9.075) and a 12th place finish on floor (8.750). Bachelder posted scores of 8.750 on both beam and floor, finishing in 11th and 12th, respectively.


Freshman Cory Bridges (Foxboro, MA) put forth a solid effort on vault with a ninth place finish (9.050), while also finishing 14th on bars (8.450). Sophomore Caitlin Elliott (Marlton, NJ) totaled a tenth place finish on floor with a score of 8.950.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to West Chester University on Friday, Feb. 24 (6 p.m.) for a quad-meet along with Wilson and Ursinus.
