ANCHORMEN STAND IN FIFTH PLACE AFTER
DAY ONE AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

Middletown, Conn.-Rhode Island College finished day one of the 2012 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championship in fifth place (14 teams). RIC has totaled a score of 59.5 points.

 

Tournament host Wesleyan is in first (99.0), followed by Springfield (97.5), Johnson & Wales (65.0) and Roger Williams (60.0).

 

Senior 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) went 2-0 and has reached the semifinals. Sophomore 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) is also 2-0 and in the semis.

 

Senior 149 lbs. Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ), sophomore 157 lbs. Kevin Barrucci (Burlington, MA) and freshman 197 lbs. Kyle Humphries (East Longmeadow, MA) have each suffered a loss, but are still in contention for All-New England status.

 

The Anchormen will resume action tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
