GAUTHIER, GIBLIN, CRUMP & TRASSO EARN PILGRIM WRESTLING LEAGUE HONORS

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College senior 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA), sophomore 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI), sophomore 174 lbs. Caleb Crump (Tucson, AZ) and senior 149 lbs. Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) were recognized by the Pilgrim Wrestling League for their respective performances in 2011-12.

 

Gauthier was named a First Team Pilgrim League All-Star. He placed second at the 2012 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships and will compete at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships at La Crosse, Wisconsin on March 9-10. For the season, Gauthier is 32-10 with 55 takedowns, eight reversals, 29 escapes, 17 near-falls and nine pins. During the season, he placed third at both the Roger Williams (Nov. 12) and Doug Parker (Nov. 19) invitationals.

Giblin was named a Second Team Pilgrim League All-Star. He placed second at the 2012 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Championships and will compete at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships at La Crosse, Wisconsin on March 9-10. For the season, Giblin is 23-4 with 54 takedowns, eight reversals, 18 escapes, 13 near-falls and eight pins. During the season, he placed first at the Roger Williams Invitational (Nov. 12) and third at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 19).

 

Crump was named a Second Team Pilgrim League All-Star. For the season, he was 20-12 with 47 takedowns, four reversals, 16 escapes, 11 near-falls and eight pins.

Trasso was an Honorable Mention Pilgrim League All-Star. For the season, he was 23-7 with 56 takedowns, four reversals, 14 escapes, seven near-falls and three pins. Trasso placed fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational (Nov. 19).

 

Head Coach Jay Jones’ placed fifth at the 2012 New England Championships. The Anchormen closed out the season with a 15-13 overall record, a 10-5 mark against NEWA opposition and a 3-2 mark in the Pilgrim Wrestling League.
