GAUTHIER & GIBLIN WRAP UP COMPETITION AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

La Crosse, Wisc.Rhode Island College senior 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier (Lowell, MA) went 3-2, while sophomore 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) went 0-2, at the 2012 NCAA Div. III Wrestling Championships held at the La Crosse Center on March 9-10.

 

Gauthier, who earned All-American honors a year ago with a seventh place finish, fell one match short of achieving the same feat again this season.

 

 

Senior 125 lbs. Brandon Gauthier

 

He opened with a pin at 4:36 over Brockport State's Tyler Martin. In his next match, third-seeded Jimmy Gotto from Coe pinned him at 7:43. Gauthier bounced back with a pin (3:48) over Olivet's Robert Bidlingmaier and a 14-9 decision over Augburg's Mike Fuenffinger. Gauthier's NCAA run came to an end as Concordia-Moorhead's Ben Presler pinned him (4:01).

 

Gauthier, who earned All-New England honors with a second place finish, wrapped up the season with a 35-12 overall record.

 

 

Sophomore 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin

 

Giblin lost his first match via injury default to sixth-seeded Andrew Zobac from North Central. He then lost in double overtime to Elmhurst's Jake Denhof. Giblin, who earned All-New England honors with a second place finish, closes the season with a 23-6 overall record.
