2011-12 Rhode Island College
Womenís Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

 

Providence, RIóHead Coach Kevin Jacksonís team wrapped up the 2011-12 womenís indoor track and field season by finishing tied for 37th place (57 teams) with 5.0 points at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships held at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3.

 

RIC finished tied for 18th (22 teams) with a score of 5.0 at the 2012 New England Div. III Womenís Track & Field Championships, hosted by Smith College on February 18.

 

Rhode Island College finished seventh (10 teams) with a team score of 43.0 at the 2012 New England Alliance Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Feb. 11. RIC finished fourth (six teams) in the Little East Conference with a score of 58.0.

 

 

 

Sophomore Jeanette Leo (Providence, RI) finished 13th with a season-best performance in the weight throw (11.84m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Leo finished 47th in the weight throw (11.23m) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She finished ninth in the weight throw (11.10m) and 21st with a season-best effort in the shot (7.25m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Leo placed fifth in the weight throw (10.82m) and ninth in the shot (6.54m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed eighth in the shot (7.21m) and 10th in the weight throw (10.23m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Leo placed 25th in the weight throw (10.48m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She placed seventh in the weight throw (10.93m) and 17th in the shot (7.07m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Sophomore Natasha Miller (Wakefield, RI) finished 22nd in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.29) and 23rd in the 200m (28.63) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Miller finished 81st with a season-best effort in the 200m (27.38) and was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the program record with a 16th place finish and a time of 4:05.77, at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She placed seventh in the 200m (27.89) and 25th in the preliminaries of the 60m (8.84) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Miller finished first in the 400m with a season-best time of 1:04.99, while placing second in the 200m (28.81), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She finished fourth in the 200m (28.65) and sixth in the 55m with a season-best time of 8.13 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Miller placed 29th in the 200m (27.45) and 56th in the preliminaries  of the 60m (8.69) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished sixth in the 200m (28.72) and 11th in the preliminaries of the 60m with a season-best time of 8.59 at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Daria Braboy (Providence, RI) was named the team MVP. She broke her own program record and earned All-ECAC honors with a season-best effort and fourth place finish in the 400m (57.36), while also finishing 21st in the triple jump (10.46m), at the ECAC Div. III Championships on March 3. She placed 11th in the 400m (57.75) and also placed 19th in the triple jump (10.75m) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Braboy earned All-New England honors with a fourth place finish in the 400m (58.65) at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. Aside from her stellar performance in the 400m, Braboy finished 11th in the 200m (26.67) and 13th in the triple jump (10.66m). She earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11, as she claimed the Alliance Championship in the 400m with a first place finish (58.87), placed second in the triple jump (10.91m) and a fourth place finish in the 200m (26.69). Braboy also placed ninth with a season-best performance in the long jump (4.93m) and finished ninth with a season-best effort in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.55).

 

Braboy finished 14th in the triple jump (10.79m), 17th in the 400m (58.37) and was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the program record with a 16th place finish and a time of 4:05.77 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She finished first with a season-best performance in the triple jump (10.85m), second in the 400m (59.63), and broke the program record with a season-best effort and a fourth place finish in the 60m (8.15) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Braboy earned first place in five different events, including the 55m (7.58), the 600m (1:42.60), the 200m (27.11), the long jump (4.70m) and the triple jump (10.79m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She finished second in the 200m (26.68), second in the triple jump (10.63m) and third in the 55m (7.60) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Braboy placed third in the 400m (59.00) and fourth in the triple jump (11.02m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished first with a season-best mark in the 600m (1:41.94) and second in the triple jump (10.66m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3. Braboy was named the Little East Conference Rookie Track Athlete of the Week twice on the year and was also named the Little East Conference Rookie Field Athlete of the Week once as well.

 

Freshman Kayla Cataldo (Ronkonkoma, NY) earned N.E. Alliance honors in the pole vault with a fourth place effort (2.90m) at the N.E Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Cataldo placed 16th in the pole vault (2.90m) and was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the program record with a 16th place finish and a time of 4:05.77 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She tied the program record with a season-best effort and a fifth place finish in the pole vault (3.05m) and also placed 11th with a season-best performance in the 600m (1:49.55) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Cataldo took first in the pole vault (2.90m) and fourth with a season-best effort in the 800m (2:36.83) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed third in the pole vault (2.75m) and finished seventh with a season-best mark in the 600m (1:52.80) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Cataldo finished fourth with a season-best effort in the 500m (1:24.84) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished first in the pole vault (2.90m) and fourth with a season-best mark in the 400m (1:04.57) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Kadijah Johnson (Central Falls, RI) placed 11th in the weight throw (15.05m) at the ECAC Div. III Championships on March 3. She took 17th in the weight throw (14.83m) at the NEICAAA Championships on Feb. 25. Johnson finished 18th with a season-best performance in the preliminaries of the 60m (8.20) at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Feb. 18. She earned N.E. Alliance honors and broke her own program record with a season-best effort and a third place finish in the weight throw (15.88m), while also placing 21st in the shot (8.35m) and 10th with a season-best mark in the 55m preliminaries (7.66), at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11.

 

Johnson finished 14th in the weight throw (15.23m) and 31st in the 60m preliminaries (8.29) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She placed first in the weight throw (14.77m), 11th in the preliminaries of the 60m (8.42) and 13th with a season-best effort in the shot (9.27m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Johnson took first in the weight throw (15.02m), while placing fourth in the 55m (7.99) and seventh in the shot (8.10m), at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed fourth in the 55m (7.94) and took fifth in the weight throw (13.84m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Johnson placed ninth in the weight throw (15.11m) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished first in the weight throw (14.18m) and eighth in the shot (8.99m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3. Johnson was named Little East Conference Field Rookie Field Athlete of the Week once on the season.

 

Freshman Chelsea Key (Putnam, CT) placed 14th with a season-best performance in the long jump (4.78m) and 22nd in the 200m (28.59) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. Key finished 33rd in the long jump (4.42m) and 105th with a season-best effort in the 200m (27.97) and was also a member of the 4x400m relay team that broke the program record with a 16th place finish and a time of 4:05.77 at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. She finished 15th in the long jump (4.45m) and 20th in the 200m (28.89) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Key finished second in the long jump (4.65m), third in the 200m (29.20) and fifth with a season-best effort in the preliminaries of the 55m (8.17) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14. She finished fifth in the 200m (29.13), seventh in the long jump (4.68m) and eighth in the 55m (8.22) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. Key placed 27th in the long jump (4.02m) and 56th in the 200m (28.42) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She finished 11th in the 200m (29.45) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Wilmine Merlain (Providence, RI) finished 23rd in the weight throw (6.63m) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. Merlain finished eighth with a season-best performance in the weight throw (7.18m) at the Coast Guard Winter Invitational on Jan. 14.  She finished 12th in the weight throw (5.81m) at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 7. She placed 16th in the weight throw (4.98m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Samantha Plante (Woonsocket, RI) placed 13th in the triple jump (9.64m) and 20th in the long jump (4.49m) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. She finished 26th with a season-best performance in the long jump (4.62m) and placed 26th with a season-best performance in the triple jump (9.94m) at the BU Terrier Invitational on Jan. 27. Plante finished 12th in the triple jump (9.43m), 16th in the long jump (4.42m) and 24th with a season-best effort in the 400m (1:09.92) at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 21. She placed fifth in the long jump (4.56m) and 11th in the 400m (1:09.03) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.

 

Freshman Morgan Whittier (Narragansett, RI) placed 14th in the high jump (1.37m) and 22nd with a season-best mark in the preliminaries of the 55m (10.56) at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 11. She finished 20th in the 60m hurdles (11.78) at the Wesleyan Invitational on January 21. Whittier finished 15th in the high jump (1.40m) and 32nd with a season-best performance in the 60m hurdles (11.24) at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. She placed ninth with a season-best effort in the high jump (1.42m) at the Springfield Invitational on Dec. 3.
