FORD, LEIGH & SUTHERLAND LEAD
ANCHORMEN TO SECOND PLACE AT
RIC SPRING INVITATIONAL

Providence, R.I.-Freshman Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA), sophomore Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) and freshman Ryan Sutherland (Rehoboth, MA) each tied for third overall (65 golfers) with a 79 (+7) to help Rhode Island College to a second place finish at the RIC Spring Invitational at Triggs Memorial Golf Course on Friday, March 30.

The tournament was originally scheduled as a two-day event, but inclement weather on Saturday forced the cancellation of the second part. Husson won the 13-team field with a combined score of 317 (+29), defeating the Anchormen by one stroke (318; +30). Endicott was third (334; + 46), while UMass Dartmouth placed fourth (335; +47).

Husson's Chris Hamel was the medalist, firing an even-par 72 to defeat teammate David Dubois (77; +5) by five strokes.

Junior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) and freshman Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) tied for eighth (80; +8). Junior Justin Coffey (Hopedale, MA) tied for 12th (82; +10).

Junior Brian Fitzgerald (Mansfield, MA) and freshman Aaron Day (East Providence, RI) each carded a 91 (+19) to tie for 39th, while sophomore Zach Guillette (Tiverton, RI) and junior Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) tied for 49th (95; +23)

The mild weather during the winter has allowed the Anchormen to play at Triggs, the club's home course, for much of the break after the fall season concluded. RIC was seeing its first competition since Oct. 23.

Head Coach Greg Gammell's team captured the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship on Oct. 9 and will take part in the NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championships in May.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Rhody Invitational on April 14-15.
