4x100 RECORD FALLS AS MEN'S TRACK PLACES THIRD AT SILFEN INVITATIONAL

New London, Conn.-Sophomore Michael Swift (Westerly, RI), freshman Jarell Forbes (Providence, RI), sophomore Blest Norris (Grosse Pointe, MI) and freshman Aleno Gomes (Providence, RI) established a new program record in the 4x100m (43.53) with a second place finish as the Rhode Island College men's outdoor track and field team placed third (12 teams) at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.

 

RIC totaled a team score of 120.0. UMass Dartmouth won the invitational with a score of 175.0.

 

Sophomore Cameron Richer (Woonsocket, RI) placed first in the 10,000m (35:20.64), while Forbes took home the top spot in the 400m hurdles (55.89).

 

Junior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI), Forbes, junior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI) and sophomore Craig Amado (Providence, RI) placed first in the 4x400m relay (3:30.13).

 

Forbes also placed second in the 110m hurdles (15.70), third in the 400m (50.56) and fourth in the high jump (1.88m).

 

 Amado placed second in the triple jump (13.85m), second in the 400m (50.40), seventh in the 200m (23.37) and ninth in the long jump (5.76m).

 

Norris placed second in the 200m (22.92) and third in the 100m (11.41). Gomes placed fifth in the 400m (51.07) and sixth in the 200m (23.35).

 

Junior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) placed second in the 1,500m (3:59.50) and eighth in the 800m (1:59.19). Stadnick placed fourth in both the 1,500 (4:02.77) and the 800m (1:58.51).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2012 New England Alliance Championships, hosted by Westfield State on Saturday, April 28.
