CANNATA & WANG WIN AS ANCHORWOMEN FALL TO COLONELS, 7-2

Milton, Mass.-Freshman Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) each earned straight set victories, but the Rhode Island College women's tennis team lost at Curry, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon.

 

Cannata won (6-2, 6-3) at No. 4 singles, while Wang picked up another victory (7-5, 7-5) at fourth singles for the Anchorwomen (0-2).

Junior Megan Mulrooney (South Boston, MA) and classmate Emily Mongello (Milton, MA) won both their singles and doubles matches for the hosts (1-0) in the Colonels' season opener. Mulrooney captured the No. 1 singles match (6-0, 7-5), while Mongello defeated her opponent (6-0, 6-0) without losing a game. The duo was victorious in their doubles match with an 8-4 decision at the top spot. Curry won all three doubles matches in the event.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Emmanuel on Tuesday, Sept. 4 (6:30 p.m.)
