ASIEDU SCORES TWICE AS ANCHORMEN FALL IN TITLE GAME OF LASELL KICK-OFF CLASSIC

Weymouth, Mass.-Sophomore forward Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI) scored both of Rhode Island College's goals as the Anchormen lost to Lasell, 3-2, in the Championship Game of the host's Kick-Off Classic on Sunday afternoon.

 

Asiedu has scored all three of RIC's (1-1) goals this season, having tallied the contest's only marker in the Anchormen's, 1-0, victory over Husson yesterday afternoon in the semifinals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Duarte (Cumberland, RI) made six saves in the loss (1-1).

 

Asiedu put the visitors on top in the fifth minute, converting on a setup by freshman midfielder Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, RI).

 

 Lasell (2-0) struck for two goals in the 27th and 42nd minutes, respectively, to head into halftime with a 2-1 lead. The Lasers dealt RIC a lethal blow just 32 seconds into the second half to build a 3-1 advantage. Asiedu scored in the 77th minute with freshman defender Alex Caron (Coventry, RI) picking up the assist, but the Anchormen could not close the gap.

 

 The Lasers outshot RIC, 20-12, and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will host Worcester State on Wednesday, Sept. 5 (6 p.m.).
