CAMPANELLA PICKS UP TWO WINS
IN, 7-2, LOSS TO SALVE REGINA

Providence, RIóRhode Island College freshman Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) won a straight set match (6-3, 6-1) at No. 1 singles and paired with sophomore Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, but Salve Regina defeated the Anchorwomen, 7-2, at the RIC Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks (1-1) took two of three in doubles to hold a 2-1 advantage. Junior Ana Gwozdz (Taunton, MA) paired with classmate Elizabeth Liguori (Westerly, RI) for an 8-1 win at second doubles. Sophomore Erica Shay (Concord, MA) and senior Shannon O'Brien (Gorham, ME) won by the same score at third doubles.

 

Salve Regina won five of six in singles action en route to the club's first win of the 2012 campaign. Freshman Karlee Walther (Natick, MA) did not lose a game (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles. Liguori, O'Brien and Shay also picked up singles victories at No. 2, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

 

The loss drops Rhode Island College to 0-3 on the season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Nichols tomorrow afternoon (noon). The Seahawks will host Eastern Nazarene tomorrow (1 p.m.).
