ANCHORWOMEN WIN FIRST MATCH OF THE SEASON
AS BRANDEIS INVITATIONAL COMES TO A CLOSE

Waltham, Mass.Rhode Island College defeated McDaniel, 3-2, for its first win of the season, before losing, 3-0, to the hosts at the 2012 Brandeis Women's Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen (1-7), who lost to Tufts and Wellesley on Friday, went 1-4 at the tournament.

 

 RIC fell behind, 2-0, vs. McDaniel, losing 25-22 and 25-17. The Anchorwomen won 25-12 and clawed out a 26-24 decision in set four before prevailing, 15-7, in the final frame.

Freshman middle hitter Adriana Ambari (Beacon Falls, CT) paced the offense with 13 kills and two blocks. Senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) had 12 kills and five digs, while junior outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) matched her offensive output. 

 

Freshman right side hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) posted 11 kills and four digs, while senior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) contributed 40 assists and eight digs. Freshman libero Jasmyn Starr (Gilford, NH) led the squad with 13 digs.

 

 Brandeis took a 2-0 lead with 25-19 and 25-17 set victories, but RIC staved off the loss momentarily with a 25-22 victory in the third set. The Judges then won, 25-21, in the fourth stanza.

 

 Boyer had 21 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Cabral posted 13 winners, while Ho recorded 44 assists.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Keene State and Westfield State on Saturday, Sept. 15 with a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m.
