ANCHORWOMEN COME UP JUST
SHORT AGAINST CORSAIRS

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Rhode Island College lost a close match, 5-4, to UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference women's tennis action played at the UMD Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon.

 

The Corsairs remain unbeaten with a 5-0 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the Little East. The Anchorwomen see a modest two-match win streak come to an end as their record now stands at 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league action.

 

 

 Sophomore No. 5 singles Janice Wang

 

Sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) and freshman Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) combined for a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles, but UMD won at second and third doubles to open the match.

 

The hosts split the six singles bouts with the Anchorwomen to come away with the win. Campanella won in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-4) at No. 1 singles. Freshman Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) earned a straight set (6-2, 6-1) victory at No. 4 singles. Wang won (5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5 singles to round out the RIC winners.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play against Worcester State on Saturday, Sept. 22 (noon). The match will be played at Assumption.
