GOLDEN BEARS SNAP RIC'S WIN STREAK

Springfield, Mass.-Junior outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) posted a team-high 10 kills, while senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) led the squad with 13 digs, but Rhode Island College was swept by Western New England, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-13), on Thursday night at Alumni Healthful Living Center Field House.

RIC (3-9) sees a modest two-match win streak come to an end with the loss. The Golden Bears (9-1) remain unbeaten at home this fall.

Devyn Frank spiked a match-best 11 kills on a .357 hitting percentage and posted two blocks, followed by Kasey Cameron with eight kills (.368), three digs and a block, and Tyler Singh had seven kills (.417). Senior co-captain Heather Mears added 26 assists, three service aces and 11 digs, while two-time reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference Libero of the Week Grace Kucharski tied for the match lead with 13 digs.

Boyer added nine kills, while senior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) contributed 27 assists.

Both teams had nearly equal the number of kills (WNE, 35-34), but the Golden Bears were the more efficient offense. Western New England committed 12 less errors with 14 total among 102 total attempts for a .206 attack percentage, while the Anchorwomen recorded 26 errors in 112 chances for a .071 clip.

The visitors didn't go quietly, though. In the first set, Cabral had two kills to help spark a 4-0 run to put RIC ahead 10-6. WNE eventually reclaimed the lead and Cameron put WNE up 1-0 in the match with a kill down the middle.

In the second set, neither side led by more than three points.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference at UMass Boston on Saturday, Sept. 22 (11 p.m.).
