LEIGH TIES FOR MEDALIST HONORS AS ANCHORMEN PLACE SECOND AT
BLAZERS FALL INVITATIONAL

Granby, Mass.-Junior Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) shot a one-over-par 73 to earn a triple share of individual medalist honors and guide Rhode Island College to a second place finish (15 teams) at the Blazers Fall Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Westover Golf Course.

 

The Anchormen fired a team score of 311, two of the pace set by host Elms College, who took first place and finished with a score of 309.

 

Leigh finished in a three-way tie for first place with Elms College senior Phil Rurak (Wilbraham, MA) and junior Henry Fall (Harpswell, ME), while RIC senior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) and Castleton State sophomore Bryan Fitzgerald (Shelton, CT) turned in rounds of 76 to finish in a tie for fourth place.

One of the major highlights of the event was a hole-in-one on the fourth hole by Castleton State sophomore Daniel Hogan (Burlington, VT). Hogan finished with a 41 on both the front and back nine to finish with a round of 82 for the event.

 

RIC freshman Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) fired an 80 to finish in a tie for 11th, while sophomore Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) posted an 82 to finish in a tie for 16th. Sophomore Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) recorded an 83 to finish one behind Butler in a tie for 22nd.

 

In addition to RICís second place finish, Wednesday afternoon marked the first time the womenís golf team was in action this season. Sophomore Ashley Ram (Ridgefield, CT) led the charge by shooting a 96 en route to a 62nd place finish. Freshman Junette Vongphoumy (Providence, RI) posted a score of 101 to finish 67th, while senior Rebecca Hickey (Warwick, RI) fired a 115 to finish 79th.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Johnson & Wales Fall Wildcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13.
