BUTLER GARNERS MEDALIST HONORS AS ANCHORMEN WIN JWU INVITATIONAL

Cranston, R.I.-Sophomore Ryan Butler (Windham, NH) fired a 155 (76, 79; +13) and earned medalist honors this weekend to lead the Rhode Island College menís golf team to a first place finish at the Johnson & Wales Fall Invitational held at Cranston Country Club.

 

The Anchormen posted a score of 621 (312, 309; +53) to lead the pack on Friday and Saturday, while Johnson & Wales finished second with a score of 639 (316, 323; +71). UMass Dartmouth placed third with a score of 644 (323, 321; +76).

 

 

 

RIC sophomore Patrick Ford (Halifax, MA) tied with Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, MA) of Nichols College for second place, as he recorded a score of 156 (79, 77; +14). Junior Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a score of 157 (80, 77; +15).

 

With a score of 160 (84, 76; +160), senior Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) finished in a three-way tie for 10th place. Freshman Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) also carded a 160 (77, 83; +18) to finish tied with Harper for 10th as well.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will look to defend its 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at the 2012 GNAC Championships, held at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass. on Oct. 20-21 (11 a.m.).
