GREG GAMMELL NAMED GNAC
MEN'S GOLF COACH OF THE YEAR

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College Head Menís Golf Coach Greg Gammell has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Anchormen to their second consecutive league championship this past weekend.

 

Gammell, who was the GNAC Menís Golf Coach of the Year 2011 as well, saw his team win the 2012 GNAC Championship with a score of 639 (316, 323; +63) on Oct. 21. RIC finished eight strokes better than second place Southern Maine and earned the leagueís automatic qualifier to the 2012 NCAA Div. III Menís Golf Championships, which are held in May.

 

 

 

He saw three of his golfers earn First Team All-GNAC honors, which includes the leagueís Rookie of the Year for the second straight season.

 

During the fall 2012 season, the Anchormen have won both the MCLA and Johnson & Wales Invitationals, while finishing second at the Elms Blazers tourney.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships, played at the Captains Course in Brewster, Mass. on Oct. 28-29. RIC will then be off for the winter and will resume competition in March.
