EIGHT RECORDS FALL AS ANCHORWOMEN
WIN FIRST-EVER MEET

West Hartford, Conn.-The Rhode Island College womenís swimming team won the programís first-ever dual meet, downing the University of St. Joseph Bluejays, 147-96, on Saturday afternoon and the Bruyette Natatorium.

 

RIC, which is in its second year as a varsity sport, established eight new program records at the meet.

 

Freshman Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.34), the 500-yard freestyle (5:44.51) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:53.90). All three times were new program marks. She also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.38).

 

 

Freshman Emily Thompson (Cumberland, RI) established new records by placing first in the 50-yard backstroke (31.84), the 50-yard fly (29.81) and as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomore Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a new program record of 11:54.54 and also broke a school mark with a first place finish in the 200 IM (2:29.96).

 

Junior Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) was part of school-record efforts in the 200-yard freestyle relay and with a first place finish in the 100-yard fly (1:07.10).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at Western New England University on Friday, Nov. 2 (6 p.m.).
