KANNO & MCCUTCHEON WIN THREE EVENTS APIECE
IN, 141-121, LOSS AT WESTERN NEW ENGLAND

Springfield, Mass.-Junior Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) and freshman Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) each won three events as the Rhode Island College women's swimming team lost, 141-121, to Western New England on Friday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen (1-1) broke six program records at the meet.

 

McCutcheon won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:33.02), 100-yard freestyle (59.76) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.90) events. Her efforts in all three events were new program records.

Junior Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) won the 50-yard breaststroke (35.14), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.03) and the 200-yard IM (2:26.91). Her marks in the 50 and the 200 IM were new school records.

Freshman Emily Thompson (Cumberland, RI) finished first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.65), second in the 50-yard butterfly (30.16) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.24).

 

Sophomore Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.68), finished second in the 200-yard IM (2:27.07) and fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.24).

 

Freshman Laura Moreau (Woonsocket, RI), Leazes, Thompson and McCutcheon set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:52.61).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 10 (noon).
