RIC ANNOUNCES FALL MVPS

Providence, RIóRhode Island College held its annual fall banquet at the Quonset Point Officerís Club on Thursday evening. Each sport handed out its Most Valuable Player Awards.

 

 

 

MENíS SOCCER

Sophomore forward Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI) was named the menís soccer teamís MVP. He was named Second Team All-Little East. He played in 14 games, starting all of them. Asiedu finished the season with five goals and five assists for 15 points. He led the Anchormen in goals, assists and points on the year. Asiedu recorded game-winning goals in the season-opener against Husson (1-0) on Sept. 1 and against UMass Boston (1-0) to give RIC its first LEC victory of the season on Sept. 15.

 

WOMENíS SOCCER

Junior midfielder Lauren Bartlett (Coventry, RI) was named the womenís soccer teamís MVP. She was named Second Team All-Little East. She played in 14 games, starting all of them. One of the teamís two captains, Bartlett was one of four Anchorwomen to start every game of the 2012 season. A stalwart in the defensive unit, Bartlett tallied a pair of assists for two points on the year. She set up a goal in the clubís, 5-0, win over Mitchell on Sept. 8 and another in an 8-2 loss to Salve Regina on Sept. 11.

 

WOMENíS TENNIS

Sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) was named the womenís tennis teamís MVP. She was 11-3 (.786) at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles and 5-8 (.385) at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for a team-high 13.5 points on the season. Wang was one of two Anchorwomen to record a victory in their Little East Conference Tournament match against Plymouth State. She dominated in LEC play on the season, as she registered a 6-1 record in singles flights against LEC opponents. Wang led the team in singles wins and was second on the squad in doubles victories.

 

WOMENíS VOLLEYBALL

Senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) was named the womenís volleyball teamís MVP. She was named First Team All-Little East. She played in 106 sets in 30 matches, the only player on the roster to play every set this fall. Boyer hit .264 with 399 kills (3.76/set), 17 assists (0.16/set), 32 service aces (0.30/set), 220 digs (2.08/set) and 48 blocks (0.45/set). Boyer led the team in hitting percentage, kills and blocks, while tying for the team lead in aces. She also ranked second on the club in digs. Boyer reached double-digit in kills in 23 matches, posting a season-high 25 in a 3-2 win over Clark on Sept. 29. She also reached double-digit digs six times, recording a season-best 13 digs in a 3-0 loss to Western New England on Sept. 20. Boyer tallied a season-high five blocks against UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 4 and registered a season-high four aces three times on the year. She was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week twice on the season. Boyer became the programís all-time leader in kills against Roger Williams on Oct. 13.

 

MENíS CROSS COUNTRY

Senior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) was named the menís cross country teamís MVP. He earned All-ECAC honors after recording a sixth place finish and a time of 26:54 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. He placed second overall and first in the Little East Conference with a time of 25:37.71 en route to N.E. Alliance honors for the second straight season at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. McCloskey finished second with a time of 25:47.09 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. He finished 10th with a time of 26:29.45 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. McCloskey finished fourth with a time of 26:03.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. He finished seventh with a time of 26:36.90 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. McCloskey finished 10th with a time of 25:17 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

WOMENíS CROSS COUNTRY

Freshman Jaimee Dorsey (East Greenwich, RI) was named the womenís cross country teamís MVP. She earned All-ECAC honors after finishing 13th overall with a time of 23:46 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. Dorsey earned N.E. Alliance honors with a sixth place finish and a time of 19:02.90 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. She placed second with a time of 19:04.34 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. Dorsey finished 33rd with a time of 23:41.91 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. She finished 20th with a time of 19:31.10 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Dorsey finished 16th with a time of 20:08.00 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. She finished 50th with a time of 19:47 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.
