Men’s Cross Country Season Summary

 Providence, RI—Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the season at the 2012 New England Div. III Men’s Cross Country Championships on Nov. 10. The Anchormen placed 24th (51 teams) with a score of 721.

 

 

 

RIC placed 14th (43 teams) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a score of 413 on Nov. 3.

 

The Anchormen placed sixth (13 teams) overall and fourth (six teams) in the Little East at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27 with team scores of 174 and 102, respectively.

 

Senior Conor McCloskey (Wakefield, RI) was named the team MVP and was the top RIC finisher in all eight races. He placed 64th with a time of 26:20.35 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. McCloskey earned All-ECAC honors after recording a sixth place finish and a time of 26:54 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. He placed second overall and first in the Little East Conference with a time of 25:37.71 en route to N.E. Alliance honors for the second straight season at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He was just the second RIC runner ever to win the Alliance title and the first since Eric Lonergan won the championship in 2006. McCloskey’s time was the 13th-fastest in RIC cross country history.

 

McCloskey finished second with a time of 25:47.09 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. He finished 10th with a time of 26:29.45 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. McCloskey finished fourth with a time of 26:03.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. He finished seventh with a time of 26:36.90 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. McCloskey finished 10th with a season-best time of 25:17 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15. It was the fourth-fastest time in program history. He was named the Little East Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week three times on the season.

 

As a junior in 2011, McCloskey was named the team MVP and was the top RIC finisher in all eight races. He placed 67th with a time of 26:11.83 at the N.E. Division III Championships on Nov. 12. McCloskey earned All-ECAC honors, placing 15th with a time of 26:56.70 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. He earned N.E. All-Alliance honors, placing fifth with a season-best time of 25:43 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. McCloskey’s effort was the 13th-fastest time in the championship’s history and tied for the 16th-best time in program history. McCloskey took first place with a time of 24:03 to help guide Rhode Island College to a 21-34 victory over Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). He placed 11th with a time of 26:47.56 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished fourth overall with a time of 26:57 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. McCloskey took first overall with a time of 27:49 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 28th with a time of 25:50.22 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17. He was named Little East Runner of the Week three times on the season.

 

As a sophomore in 2010, McCloskey placed 139th with a time of 28:33.3 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 55th with a time of 27:40.98 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. McCloskey placed 21st with a time of 27:48.20 at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Oct. 30. He earned a second place finish with a time of 22:30 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 16. McCloskey placed 30th with a time of 27:30.46 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 9. He placed 31st with a time of 28:10 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 2. McCloskey placed 101st with a time of 29:15 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept. 25. He placed 112th with a season-best time of 27:24 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept 18.

 

As a freshman in 2009, McCloskey placed 137th with a time of 28:01.30 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 14. He placed 51st with a time of 28:14.00 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 7. McCloskey was RIC’s top runner, placing 29th with a time of 28:11.00, at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 31. He placed third with a season-best time of 27:05.00 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 17. McCloskey placed 34th with a time of 27:44.64 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 10. He placed 14th with a time of 27:59.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 3. McCloskey placed 115th with a time of 27:29.00 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.

 

McCloskey is a secondary education major with a concentration in history and a 2009 graduate of South Kingstown High School.

 

Senior Austin Pena (Warwick, RI) finished 176th with a season-best time of 28:18.62 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. He finished 136th with a time of 29:52 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. Pena finished 75th with a time of 29:02.59 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He finished 45th with a time of 28:34.22 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. Pena finished 187th with a time of 29:58.94 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. He finished 86th with a time of 29:00.90 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Pena finished 62nd with a time of 30:08.10 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He finished 215th with a time of 29:43 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

As a junior in 2011, Pena finished 221st with a time of 29:08.17 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He placed 146th with a time of 29:48.47 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. Pena finished 58th overall with a season-best time of 28:14 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He finished 12th with a time of 26:13 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). Pena placed 152nd with a time of 30:18.43 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished 63rd with a time of 29:44 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. Pena placed 15th with a time of 31:38 at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He finished 157th with a time of 28:40.50 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

As a sophomore in 2010, Pena placed 252nd with a time of 31:15.8 at the NCAA N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 13. Pena placed 146th with a season-best time of 29:02.85 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 98th with a time of 30:58.90 at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Oct. 30. Pena placed 10th with a time of 24:33 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 16. He placed 132nd with a time of 29:49.15 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 9. He placed 94th with a time of 29:46 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 2.  He placed 236th with a time of 33:46 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept 25.

 

As a freshman in 2009, Pena placed 172nd with a time of 30:29.90 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 7. Pena placed 76th with a time of 29:47.00 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 31. He placed eighth with a season-best time of 28:01.00 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 17. Pena placed 62nd with a time of 28:50.44 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 10. He placed 44th with a time of 29:14.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 3. Pena placed 109th with a time of 28:37.90 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept. 26. He placed 171st with a time of 28:49.00 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.

 

Pena is a justice studies major and a 2009 graduate of Toll Gate High School.

 

Senior Shawn Stadnick (Wakefield, RI) placed 102nd overall with a time of 27:04.63 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 46th with a time of 27:58 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. Stadnick placed 25th overall with a time of 27:10.50 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct.  27. He recorded a time of 27:06.03 to finish 11th at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct.  13. Stadnick registered a time of 28:37.92 to finish 103rd at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. He placed 44th with a time of 27:53.60 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Stadnick placed 34th with a time of 28:29.00 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He placed 78th with a season-best time of 26:52 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

As a junior in 2011, Stadnick placed 195th with a time 28:26.78 at the N.E. Championships on Nov. 12. He placed 85th with a time of 28:45.54 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 5. Stadnick placed 34th with a season-best time of 27:21 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 29. He placed second with a time of 24:51 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 15 (shortened course). Stadnick placed 72nd with a time of 28:35.09 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 8. He finished 34th with a time of 28:28 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 1. Stadnick posted a time of 30:50 for a 12th place finish at the Elms College Invitational on Sept. 24. He placed 123rd with a time of 27:45.59 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 17.

 

As a sophomore in 2010, Stadnick finished 200th with a time of 29:48.9 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 13. Stadnick finished 103rd with a season-best time of 28:23.18 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He finished 72nd with a time of 30:01.70 at the N.E. Alliance Championship on Oct. 30. Stadnick placed fifth with a time of 23:21 (shortened course) at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 16. He placed 72nd with a time of 28:38.50 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 9. He placed 63rd with a time of 28:54 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 2. He placed 182nd with a time of 31:42 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept. 25. He placed 184th with a time of 29:22 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept 18.

 

As a freshman in 2009, Stadnick placed 141st with a time of 28:03.60 at the N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 14. He placed 90th with a time of 28:57.80 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 7. Stadnick placed 38th with a time of 28:28.00 at the N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 31. He placed fifth with a season-best time of 27:22.00 at Eastern Connecticut on Oct. 17. Stadnick placed 43rd with a time of 28:03.89 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 10. He placed 34th with a time of 28:47.00 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Oct. 3. Stadnick placed 97th with a time of 28:14.20 at the Cod Fish Bowl on Sept. 26. He placed 138th with a time of 27:52.00 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 19.

 

Stadnick is a computer science major and a 2009 graduate of South Kingstown High School.

 

Junior Tom DeCristofaro (Smithfield, RI) placed 220th with a time of 29:24.49 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 131st with a time of 29:49 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. DeCristofaro registered a time of 29:17.85 to finish 77th at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He registered a season-best time of 28:47.62 to finish 57th at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct.  13. DeCristofaro finished 272nd with a time of 31:26.73 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. He posted a time of 29:16.90 to place 94th at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. DeCristofaro finished with a time of 30:27.90 to place 65th at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He finished with a time of 28:57 to place 191st at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

Junior Cameron Richer (Woonsocket, RI) finished 166th with a time of 28:07.23 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. He finished 99th with a time of 29:04 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov.  3. Richer finished 58th with a time of 28:26.26 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He placed 31st with a season-best time of 28:01.59 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct.  13. Richer placed 152nd with a time of 29:28.90 at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. He placed 92nd with a time of 29:12.70 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Richer finished 54th with a time of 29:40.80 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He finished 172nd with a time of 28:23 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

Freshman Kenny Bouchey (Cornish, ME) finished 244th with a time of 30:04.99 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov. 10. He placed 201st with a time of 31:45 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. Bouchey finished 90th with a time of 29:52.75 at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He posted a 75th place finish and a season-best time of 29:08.25 at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct.  13. Bouchey registered a time of 30:26.37 to finish 216th at the James Earley Invitational on Oct.  6. He finished 153rd with a time of 30:41.20 at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Bouchey posted a 73rd place finish and a time of 31:56.40 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He finished 242nd with a time of 30:56 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.

 

Freshman Brandon Paulino (Bristol, RI) placed 227th with a time of 29:36.51 at the 2012 N.E. Div. III Championships on Nov 10. He finished 210th with a time of 31:58 at the 2012 ECAC Div. III Championships on Nov. 3. Paulino recorded a time of 28:47.15 to finish 67th at the 2012 N.E. Alliance Championships on Oct. 27. He clocked a season-best time of 28:26.38 to finish 40th at the WNE Golden Bear Invitational on Oct. 13. Paulino posted a time of 31:02.53 to finish 252nd at the James Earley Invitational on Oct. 6. He recorded a time of 29:45.00 to finish 118th at the Pop Crowell Invitational on Sept. 29. Paulino registered a time of 31:14.00 to finish 71st at the Wesleyan Invitational on Sept. 22. He posted a time of 28:59 to finish 194th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 15.
