COLLINS PICKS UP LONE WIN AS ANCHORMEN
FALL TO UNDEFEATED EMERSON, 8-1

Providence, R.I.-Junior Matt Collins (Rumford, RI) won (6-4, 1-6, 1-0: 10-2) at No. 5 singles as the Rhode Island College menís tennis team lost, 8-1, to Emerson at the RIC Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon.

 

RIC (1-2) junior Ted James (West Greenwich, RI) took junior Zach Connolly (Westfield, NJ) to three sets at No. 4 singles before falling (6-2, 4-6, 1-0: 10-6).

Emerson (4-0), which remains unbeaten on the season, got a strong performance from reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week freshman Vincent Castellini (Grand Junction, CO), who defeated RIC sophomore Mike McCaffrey (Cumberland, RI) in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).

 

Sophomore Kevin Blisniuk (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and junior Brent Walkoff (Bolton, MA) combined for a tough (9-8: 7-5) win at No. 1 doubles, and then each won at No. 1 (6-1, 6-2) and No. 2 (6-0, 6-3) singles, respectively.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Suffolk on Tuesday, April 2 (3:30 p.m.).
