PROCTOR PICKS UP WIN AT
NO. 2 SINGLES IN, 8-1, LOSS TO SUFFOLK

Providence, R.I.-Freshman Benjamin Proctor (Cumberland, RI) recorded a victory at No. 2 singles as the Rhode Island College men’s tennis team fell to Suffolk University, 8-1, in non-conference action at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Suffolk improves its record to 2-1 on the year, while Rhode Island College drops to 1-3.

 

The Rams opened up the contest with three consecutive victories in doubles to jump ahead of the Anchormen early.

Proctor earned the lone victory for RIC at No. 2 singles in a wild three-set battle against Suffolk’s Calixto Romero (2-6, 7-6, (8-6), 1-0, (10-6)) that included two tie-breakers.

 

Meanwhile, junior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) came up just shy of pulling off the victory at No. 1 singles, but fell to sophomore Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela), (6-7, (8-10), 6-4, 1-0, (10-10)) in three sets. Junior Matt Collins (Rumford, RI) also fell in a tightly-contested battle against senior Dachaun Zhu (Beijing, China), (1-6, 6-2, 1-0, (10-5)).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hosts Curry College on Thursday (3:30 p.m.).
