In game one, the Nor’easters jumped out to a 2-0 lead right off the bat in the top of the first as freshman shortstop Meghan Bolano (Wakefield, RI) brought in a pair with a two-run single to right field.

The Anchorwomen quickly regained the advantage in the home half of the frame as Pokora smacked a two-run double to center field and, after moving to third on a wild pitch, scored on Thoma’s single to right field.

UNE quickly countered by putting four runs across in the top of the second to build a 6-3 advantage. Freshman left fielder Amanda Vallante (Dracut, MA) tied the game with an RBI single, junior third baseman Amanda Vaudreuil (Windham, NH) knocked in a pair with a two-run single and senior second baseman Erin Grover (Biddeford, ME) scored on a throwing error.

The Anchorwomen tied the contest up, 6-6, in the bottom of the third, thanks to a two-run double off Thoma’s bat and an RBI single by freshman left fielder Abigail Francis (Worcester, MA).

RIC put four runs on the board in the fourth to seal the win. With runners on first and third, sophomore shortstop Katelyn Sykora (Waterford, CT) knocked in one with a single to shortstop.  Senior pitcher Emily Johnson (West Kingston, RI) helped her own cause with an RBI single and Thoma dealt the decisive blow with a two-run single.

The Nor’easters went up 1-0 in the nightcap in the first inning as junior left fielder Allie Frazier (Tewksbury, MA) led off with a single and later scored on Vaudreuil’s RBI double to left center field.

RIC tied the game in the bottom of the first as senior designated player Jessica Borden (Lincoln, RI) reached on an error and scored on Pokora’s infield single.

Pokora belted her sixth homer of the season with two down in the third to stake the host’s to a 2-1 lead.

RIC was poised to close out the game in the top of the seventh, but UNE rallied to plate three runs and take a 4-2 lead.  The Nor’easters loaded the bases with one out and Frazier, Vallante and Bolano each hit RBI singles before the hosts got out of the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Anchorwomen loaded the bases with two down, but freshman pitcher Abby Lambert (Brockton, MA) struck out Pokora to end the game.

Lambert got the win (5-3), allowing one earned run on seven hits, while striking out five. RIC junior pitcher Michelle Sylvestre (Warwick, RI) suffered the loss (2-4), allowing four runs on 10 hits.

Sykora (3-for-8) and Borden (3-for-8) each scored a pair runs. Frazier went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Vallante went 4-for-8. Bolano and Vaudreuil each knocked in three.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at Keene State on Saturday, April 13 (1 p.m.).
