North Dartmouth, Mass.-Junior Alex Werchadlo (Woonsocket, RI) and freshman Benjamin Proctor (Cumberland, RI) teamed up to come away with a victory at No. 1 doubles as Rhode Island College fell to UMass Dartmouth, 7-2, at the UMD Athletic Complex in Little East Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.


The Corsairs improved to 4-3 overall with a 2-1 mark in LEC play, while RIC drops to 1-9 on the year with an 0-3 record in conference play.


Werchadlo and Proctor helped set the tone for the Anchormen early with a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 1 doubles over senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA) and sophomore Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, MA). After freshmen Dan Chouinard (Westport, MA) and Jonathan Reagan (Franklin, MA) earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, Rhode Island College was able to jump ahead with an early lead over the Corsairs after junior Ted James (West Greenwich, RI) and freshman Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) picked up the victory at No. 3 doubles via forfeit.

UMass Dartmouth bounced back strong by taking all six singles flights en route to the, 7-2, victory. Senior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA) held off Werchadlo at No. 1 singles to earn the win (6-1, 6-3), while Dugas followed with a hard-fought victory (6-3, 6-3) over Proctor at No. 2 singles.


Sophomore Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, MA) cruised to victory at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-1), while Lawton followed suit at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0). Chouinard and Reagan rounded out the scoring with (6-1, 6-0) victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hosts Salem State at the RIC Tennis Courts in Little East Conference action on Saturday, April 20 (12 p.m.).
