SEVEN RECORDS FALL AS ANCHORWOMEN
COMPETE AT UMASS DARTMOUTH

North Dartmouth, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s swimming team established seven new program records at the 2012 Louise Goodrum Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. There were no team scores kept at the competition.

 

Freshman Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) had another outstanding meet, placing first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.30), second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.10), fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (59.03), as well as, seventh in both the 200-yard medley (2:07.15) and 200-yard freestyle (1:53.25) relays. All five times were new program records.

Junior Sophie Kanno (Cranston, RI) placed third in the 50-yard butterfly (29.75), seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.54), 10th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.79), as well as, seventh in both the 200-yard medley (2:07.15) and 200-yard freestyle (1:53.25) relays. All of her efforts, except for the 100-yard backstroke, were new RIC records.

 

Sophomore Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) helped establish both relay records and placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.52), sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.50) and fifth in the 200-yard IM (2:30.31).

 

Freshman Emily Thompson (Cumberland, RI) was a member of both relay squads and placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.71).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2012 Little East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Dec. 1 (11 a.m.).
