COLE WINS AT 133 LBS. AS RIC WRESTLING PLACES SEVENTH AT DOUG PARKER INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.-Freshman 133 lbs. Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) went 5-0 and won his weight class as the Rhode Island College wrestling team placed seventh (16 teams) at the 2012 Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen totaled a team score of 71.5, while Centenary won the championship with a score of 166.0. RIC was without several of its top wrestlers, including junior Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI), who is currently ranked No. 1 in New England at 149 lbs.

 

 

 Freshman 133 lbs. Ricondo Cole

 

Cole defeated Wesleyan's Maika Nagata, 6-3, in the finals of his weight class. Three other Anchormen also placed at the tourney.

 

Junior Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY), currently ranked second in New England, placed for the second consecutive week, going 4-1 to earn a third place finish at 125 lbs. Senior captain Mike Sugermeyer (Hampden, MA) went 3-2 to place sixth at 125 lbs.

 

 

 Freshman 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray

 

 Fifth-ranked junior 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) went 3-1 to place fourth.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) rival Plymouth State on Wednesday, Nov. 28 (7 p.m.).
